April 2019 Minutes - D. Trew

The Friends of Rothrock convened the monthly board meeting at their usual meeting location of the ClearWater Conservancy’s board room on April 15th. Nine board members and a couple community members were in attendance to discuss all the fun things the group has been up to.

The Friends group was joined by the Standing Stone Trail Club for a brief presentation on a plan to open the Greenwood and Little Flat Fire Towers to the public. There is an exciting possibility of renovating the towers to serve as community assets, either as year-round observation points or to open them on specific days for special events. The board was excited at the chance to open a couple popular landmarks and passed a letter of support unanimously.

The Friends group committees then took turns presenting what all they had been up to in the previous month. A lot of the work in the group had come from the development committee’s application to two major grants: a DCNR grant and the Centre County Visitor’s Bureau. The board was optimistic about our chances for funding from these grants and at the work that can be started with the money in them.

The date for the 2019 Trail Fest was announced to be the 22nd of September, with the Trail Mix event scheduled for the 8th of June.

Our trail work day is still scheduled for the 22nd of June. We will build the first few hundred feet of trail and show the public what all goes into making a new trail.

The Friends of Rothrock is happy to announce that all members currently part of the friends group will retain their membership for the foreseeable future at no cost. We don’t have any plans to charge dues to be a member of the friends group currently.
