June 2019 Minutes - D. Trew

The Friends of Rothrock State Forest held the monthly board meeting in the Patton Twp Library Meeting Room on the 17th of June 2019. The following board members were in attendance: D. Trew; M. Wildy; M. Bush; B. Coe; T. Harrison; T. Kistler; D. Pontzer; J. Ziegler;  additionally members of the community were also present as well as representatives from several local organizations.

Congratulations were issued to the development committee for a successful Centre Gives Campaign and receiving a $10,000 grant from the Central Pennsylvania Convention & Visitors Bureau tourism grant. This money will help kick-start several projects in the Musser Gap area and act as an important match for larger grants in-process. The Friends then recounted the fun at the Bellefonte Outdoor expo: 35 people were added as members of FoR, many more were spoken to during the event with positive energy from the community about the work we are doing.

A presentation on a possible program, from Quantified Ventures, to fund the trail projects in the forest was then presented during the meeting.

Committees then provided reports on their activities to the larger board. The development committee expressed continued optimism towards some of the larger grants we are working on and a discussion around how to budget for the project as well as when to send out bid requests was made.

The Communications committee kept us up to speed recounting the 35 new contacts added from Bellefonte Expo and roughly 30 people interested in trail work day. It is clear people are excited by the opportunity to get involved.

Trail Fest is officially scheduled and contracts are being signed to run the event this fall on the 22nd of September. The plan for Trail Fest this year is a multi-sport relay to foster cooperation among user groups. Food trucks and bands are still planned for after the event and vendors will be invited to provide demos for the users. It should be a great time!
