September 2019 Minutes - D. Trew

The Friends of Rothrock held their monthly meeting for September 2019 on the 16th of the month. The meeting was called to order with Dan T., Mike B., Terry H., Tom K., Jennifer M., Katie O., and Jay Z.

The board heard a presentation by a group representing the efforts of Penn State around the Musser Gap to Valleylands project. The project sought public input on actions to be taken on Penn State property immediately adjacent to the State Forest land that provides access to Musser Gap.

The board discussed the upcoming Rothrock Trail Fest event and noted that in the following month we would hear about the process for nominating the 2020 board. Following this was committee reports. The trails and maintenance committee announced that the signup for the October 5
th work day at Bear Meadows was live and that there was already some interest in the event. The development committee felt positive about the prospects of reviving the large DCNR RTP grant and stressed that the workload would vary heavily depending on if the group received the grant. The communications committee shared the latest statistics on our outreach, stating that a majority of the traffic was on mobile devices and we had a very engaged readership for our e-newsletter. The stewardship committee provided an insight to make sure that the groups working on the 5th should take care with decontaminating equipment to prevent Japanese stiltgrass from spreading. The committee also shared plans for a hunter outreach event later in November to provide an opportunity to reach a different segment of the Forest users. The meeting was adjourned in daylight for the last time this year.
